  Great advice! I especially love the point of asking someone whom shoots the stuff you would like to shoot with it. In the style you would like to do.
  
  I'm currently looking to get rid of a UWA zoom, to get a wide prime. I'm tossing up the Nikon 20mm F1.8 or the new Sigma 24mm F1.4. I find my self shooting iso12800, F2.8 WAY to often.

  Great Video, should have seen this a year ago. I made almost every mistake you mentioned. But as I was "smart" enough to buy anything one "has to have", I have lot's of opportunities to grow into my gear.
  But if you watch this video before you buy, believe Matt! I paid almost 4.000 in a year to learn that it is - surprisingly and against all odds - true that the gear doesn't make a good photographer.
  On the other hand, if you can afford it, good gear will obviously be a big motivation to get it out. :)
