Before you get worked up into a frenzy, or the Nikon fans start making fun of their Canon friends, this is not a DSLR. It is not even a consumer camera.
The M15P-CL is actually an industrial camera, aimed at quality control purposes. Those super detailed checks that are beyond the usual child-labour worker in a manufacturing plant can now be done with this little unit. The monochrom sensor is designed to have great dynamic range, low noise and excellent tonal range. No doubt this is true- like the Leica Monochrom has shown, taking away color provides a much greater range of mono tones.
But why the F mount?? In an unusually pragmatic move, it seems it is just based on the fact that the majority of industrial cameras are Nikon Mount - so they threw on the F mount so they can still use their lens collection...
So - who is hoping that Canon will put this sensor into a new street camera??
