I have never tested a lens - let alone a fast aperture prime lens - that is free from vignetting when shot wide open. Even the very best show some - and stopping down half or a full stop clears it up. But this really seems closer to perfect than I have seen before, and the overall contrast, color and sharpness are all world class. Despite 'ONLY' costing $2500, I think this sits way above the rest of the Z range - and almost every other modern portrait lens from any brand, at any price - in terms of optical performance. It's stunning....

    Great review Matt - definitely whetted my appetite.
    On another issue: would it be possible for you to do a summary of the different "names"used by Nikon. You mentioned the Plena and the NOCT. Nikon also use LOTS of other terms - perhaps you could do a summary for us plebs?
