Hi Matt, Great video as always and I can really see where you are investing in production and a separate camera crew (although I think Justin is great).

I was expecting you to mention extension tubes though and perhaps add an extension tube to a 50mm f1.8 lens (nice an cheap) and use that rather than go straight to a specialist macro lens. I have seen one of your older videos where you talk about extension tubes but it would have been nice to see it in a more controlled environment.

I know you focus more on what can be done in camera, but again was expecting you to at least mention focus stacking as that is a great way of overcoming the lack of depth of field in macro.

Will this series form the basis of a "Take Control of the Light 2" type training video series?

Many thanks for the videos. Neil.

    Hello Matt and Tina
Great videos , thanks for making the time to make them.

I would have 2 suggestions , one challenge would be Tina to shoot 1 roll of film, and Matt helping her out develop them ,it would help her in the composition stage, and keep her away from the spray and prey which I don't believe in , unless your doing sports, when she sees the counter going down, she will take her time to think it through and also lots of people will never see the process of developing film , it would be interesting to see.

The 2 nd suggestion would be to try and recreate a favorite photo that Tina likes, that would challenge her to think out of the box,(Digitalrev style) like for example for me ,it would be to emulate the photo of your dad that we saw in the video ,trying to place the strobes to give out the same effect. Let s see if Tina remembers the knowledge she learned while doing "Take Control of the Light" :)

Have a great shoot and keep it fun
    Thanks
    Dubosteph

Are you planning a landscape challenge. That would be a step away from her comfort zone. Tina is gorgeous an Matt is very good at educating.

First of all, Tina is Beautiful!
Very nice video. Thank you both. I am thinking of a Close-up or Macro lens for my Nikon D810. I am wavering between the Nikon Macro 105 and the Zeiss 100. I am leaning towards the Zeiss. The Zeiss is 1:2 not, 1:1 but I was thinking that with the number of pixels on the D810, I can crop a picture that is 1:2 if I need to get closer. What are your thoughts?

The timing of this video was perfect. I purchased a macro lens about a week ago, only just saw this video though. I have been interested with macro for a while. I am doing a mycology project and figured documenting it was a perfect reason to get out my gear. I still call myself a beginner, but after watching much of the past videos, I was able to create some great shots despite having to get creative with items on hand. They need some post, but I am pleased considering my experience level. I used a remote speedlight with a small soft box in conjunction with a garden light and produced some wonderful effects. I just need to figure out how to show them off :)
