G'Day Matt,
I have a Nikon d7000 and 28-300 zoom lens for photographing Bulls ( so one animal - side on) - which works quite well as far as getting the shot of a quiet animal or a nervous animal that is further away. I would now like to go a step better to get shallow depth of field to get good bokeh but still keep my distance away from the animal (they are in the paddock - not led). I suspect I'll only use it for quieter animals. I'm thinking 85mm 1.8 (85mm 1.4 sound nice but too expensive to justify). My question is - how far away from the bull would I be if he fills the frame with a reasonable border around him? Would it work just as well if I crop it later? Is there another lens I should consider? Thank you very much for your time.
