This one's going to go on for a long time, and, as you say, it's pretty pointless, because at the end of the day, it IS about what works for the individual. Personally, I have very small hands, so having a camera body with similar functions and quality to those I've used to make a living for the last 43 years is a great bonus to me. I don't care too much about having a heavy piece of glass on the front of a small body, because, at last, I can get my hand comfortably around that body. Yes there are disadvantages to mirrorless systems, but I tend to use Sony bodies with Canon and Nikon glass, and manually focus. The kind of work I do is suited to this workflow, so it's a win win situation for me. I do have SOME Sony optics, which I resort to when I need to work faster, and that works well too.
